Young Client Receives £245,000 in Compensation After Being Hit by Dangerous Driver
Mr A’s family approached Mulderrigs’ specialist personal injury team for advice when he was in hospital following a serious road traffic accident.
Mr A was on his lunch break at work. He went outside for a walk and whilst crossing the road a car came speeding down the wrong side of the road.
This car was speeding to evade an unmarked police car, and subsequently Mr A was knocked down by the vehicle.
Mr A sustained multiple serious injuries, which came with a lengthy recovery time. These included a fracture to his shoulder and knee.
After his accident, Mr A faced a long period of rehabilitation. Due to this, he had to move back home with his parents for the duration, so that he could receive care from them.
How Mulderrigs Were Able to Help
In the time following the accident, it was found that the dangerous driver, who absconded from the scene was using a hire car.
When we notified the claim to the hire companies’ insurers, they immediately agreed to deal with the claim.
A national appeal was set up to find the dangerous driver and bring them to justice. After some time, he was found. He was taken to court and charged with the offence involving Mr A, as well as other offences.
Mr A had suffered significant and limiting injuries as a result of the accident, so we found it important to help him as much as possible.
We liaised with the car companies’ insurers and were able to obtain private rehabilitation for him which in time allowed for him to return to work and regain his independence.
Our client was only young at the time of the accident, so it was a worrying to think of what his future deterioration could look like, due to his injuries.
We obtained various medical reports to get a full-scale idea of any future medical help he would need.
It was identified that he would need a full knee replacement later on in life. This was taken into account when negotiating his claim.
With all this information gathered, we issued court proceedings on behalf of our client. We sought legal advice from a barrister who specialised in high value claims.
The barrister helped to draft a detailed schedule of loss which we could use to start our negotiations with the car companies’ insurers.
Not too long into the court proceedings we settled on a fair sum of £245,000.
Jo Smith, specialist personal injury solicitor commented –
“It was rewarding to help Mr A in his recovery and secure a significant sum to ensure he was in a position to pay for future treatment. Only a few days after the claim was settled he was in touch with one of the experts from the claim to arrange further surgery on a private basis.”
