Have Your Solicitors Closed Down?

It’s a sad sign of the times, but a very large number of solicitors’ firms have closed over the last 12 months.

Some of these firms have been badly affected by the recession, and others by the government’s ill-judged attack on the civil justice system.  And, sadly, some firms have been closed as a result of Law Society intervention, where malpractice has been suspected.

Commenting on the situation our MD Paul Mulderrig said:

“Whatever the reasons for a solicitors’ firm closing, the news always presents a major problem to the clients who are affected.

“It’s a particularly serious problem at the moment because the government introduced some new court rules in 2013 which have made it far  more difficult for people to continue with personal injury cases when important deadlines are missed.

“A court deadline was missed in a high profile civil case arising out of the “Plebgate”  scandal, and because the deadline was missed the lawyers have been barred from recover tens of thousands of pounds in legal fees.

“Lots of other cases have been struck out altogether because of these new rules.

“So my very firm advice  to anyone whose case has been affected by the closure of a law firm is to contact new solicitors as a matter of the utmost urgency.”
