Rawtenstall in Bloom Picnic in the Park Day

Last Friday we celebrated and thanked all of the volunteers of Civic Pride Rossendale for their hard work in getting Rawtenstall ready for the Britain in Bloom 2023 competition.

The sun was on our side from the offset as everyone set up their tables in the morning. The ukulele band warmed up as we couldn’t help but take in the beautiful setting which was the Whitaker Park.

Lunch time hit and people began to show up to the tuneful sound of the ukulele band, whilst they lay out picnic blankets in the grass and leisurely strolled past the sponsors’ tables, including our own.

We had some wonderful freebees which went down a treat with everyone attending, varying from pens and trolley coins, to Mulderrigs’ designer cupcakes.

Soon after the speeches concluded, the brass band began to play. It made for a lovely setting on a surprisingly sunny day. We all believed it must be fate that the one day it didn’t rain last week, was for our picnic in the park and the judging day of the Britain in Bloom 2023.

The food served was a wonderful addition to the day. They catered to all needs, whether a meat eater or not, with a hog roast or vegan burger option. Alongside lots of lovely homemade quiches and salads.

As the picnic drew to an end, we were simply left with the beaming pride, radiating from every single volunteer who helped make Rawtenstall in Bloom happen.

Civic Pride have done amazing things for Rawtenstall and regardless of winning or not, they have created a beautiful atmosphere of community amongst the town. This feeling of community seems to be quite rare amongst local areas these days, so it is commendable what they have achieved as a group.

Paul Mulderrig commented –

“What a fabulous event to be involved with. Civic Pride do so much hard work to keep the town looking great. It would be great if they received recognition in this national competition but, whatever the outcome, all their volunteers deserve a massive thank you.”

The final judging day will be in October in London, where a handful of the volunteers will attend to hear the outcome.

We wish Rawtenstall and Civic Pride the best of luck in October. You are already winners in our eyes.
