Mr Branson from Greater Manchester was badly injured when he was knocked from his motorcycle. His insurance company appointed a solicitor for him but they didn't investigate his case properly and didn't obtain all the necessary medical reports, so he received much less compensation than he should have done. Can I claim?
Normally, you will need to be able to answer "yes" to each of these questions....
- Were you a client of the person you intend to claim against?
- Have you suffered a loss as a result of the mistake? (Although it may seem unfair, in practise the loss would normally need to be in excess of £5000.00 to make it worthwhile pursuing a claim).
- Are you still in time to bring a claim? (In most professional negligence claims you will have six years from when the claim arose to start any court proceedings........but there are strict rules about time limits and if you fail to comply with these you can lose the right to pursue the claim, so if you are in any doubt about time limits we suggest that you contact us immediately).

When Mr Bowness bought his farmhouse he discovered that his solicitor had not investigated the title deeds properly and his house didn't have a legitimate water supply.
