Football Injury Compensation

Been injured by a stupid challenge? Opponent given a straight red?

Don't let people tell you "It's all part of the game mate!"

Make no mistake.... Claims arising out of football injuries are extremely difficult.

However, we have recovered millions of pounds in compensation for injured players:-

We'll be happy to visit you at home,

We'll talk to you in plain English,

And it won't cost you a penny - Guaranteed!

In practice you are unlikely to succeed unless the offending player has been reckless in his behaviour, and the best evidence of that is usually that the other player has been sent off the field with a straight red card.

If you'd like some free advice call us 0800 052 3693 or complete our freeclaim enquiry form.

The Law that governs claims for football injuries is exactly the same as the law for other accident compensation claims ... negligence.

When a football case goes to court, the judge will normally ask himself "Should the offending player have realised that his actions involved a clear risk of causing serious injury?"

The difficulty is that in a fast-moving game like football, it is hard to tell the difference between a split-second mistake and something that is plainly careless, reckless or negligent..... That's where we come in.... we can usually make an assessment of your prospects during the first free phone call.

There have been several high profile claims for football injuries involving professional players in recent years - Darren Pitcher, Paul Elliot, Gordon Watson and Chris Casper. In August 2008 the young Manchester United player, Ben Collett received over £4.0M for a career-ending challenge.

Some of our recent football injury cases:-

(The names of our clients have been changed).

£20,000.00 football injury compensation after a "late" challenge - Mr Carling suffered a football injury during a semi-professional match. He was the victim of a challenge which was late, high and just plain dangerous. Our client suffered a broken leg and the other player was sent off for his serious foul play. Though the case appeared to be straightforward, the insurance company for the other player wouldn't accept responsibility so we had to fight our client's case through the courts. We negotiated a settlement for our client just before the trial of the case was due to start and our client received over £20,000.00.

Late challenge in a cup final results in £30,000.00 football injury compensation - Mr Richardson suffered a broken leg when he was the victim of a late, high and dangerous challenge during a cup final in Southampton between semi-professional teams. The referee was well positioned and sent the other player off for serious foul play but, amazingly, the insurance company for the other player wouldn't accept responsibility and so we had to fight the case through the courts. The insurance company tried to suggest that the incident was 'just one of those things'. We didn't agree and we eventually won our client's case, obtaining more than £30,000.00 in compensation. Fortunately, our client recovered from his injuries and is still playing today.

£150,000.00 football injury compensation after our client was "Kicked into touch" - Mr Gregory was a promising young apprentice professional when he suffered a serious football injury as a result of a foul challenge in a match at Bury, which meant he lost the chance to pursue a professional career. He was kicked by an opponent 'off the ball' when the ball had in fact gone out of play. The referee was nearby and immediately sent the other player off for serious foul play. The insurance company for the other player wouldn't accept responsibility and we had to fight his case through the courts, where the Judge decided in favour of our client and awarded compensation of £150,000.00.

£100,000.00 football injury compensation after a violent challenge during a cup final - Mr Branton was the director of his own company when he suffered a serious knee injury as a result of a violent challenge from an opposing player in a cup final match in Cumbria.  He was kicked very high, above ball height, while the ball was 'some yards' away, causing serious damage to the medial and both cruciate ligaments in his knee. The referee immediately gave a red card for serious foul play. Being unable to run his business properly for several months we managed to obtain compensation of £100,000.00 for him.

£18,500.00 in football injury compensation after a lunging challenge results in serious knee injury - Mr Jackson was a victim of a high challenge from an opponent with raised studs showing, resulting in a terrible knee ligament injury. Whilst running with the ball the opposing player 'lunged in' and was consequently sent off by the referee. Mr Jackson  suffered serious damage to his right knee and had to have surgery to repair his knee ligaments. Being put at a permanent disadvantage in the labour market we were able to obtain £18,500.00 in compensation.

£8,500.00 compensation for football injury suffered during a company fun-day - Mr Rowland was working as a baker for a major supermarket when he suffered a broken leg while playing in a 5-a-side football tournament at a company "fun day". He was a victim of a 'two-footed' challenge from behind in what was supposed to be a friendly game against staff from another branch of the company. The referee was nearby and sent off the opponent immediately and the match was abandoned. We took on the case on "no win no fee" terms and helped our client get £8,500.00 in compensation for his football injury.

£100,000.00 football injury compensation for a PE teacher who was hacked down from behind - Mr Marston was a PE teacher and a very keen sportsman when he suffered multiple fractures to his tibia and fibula as well as a break to the ankle joint, as a result of a challenge from behind during a football match in Bedford. He was approaching goal and one-on-one with the goalkeeper when he was challenged from behind by an opponent who had no chance of getting the ball. Mr Marston had to undergo four operations over the next couple of years, including having metalwork put in place and later removed. We took on his case against the offending player, won the case at a trial and then helped him recover over £100,000.00 in compensation.

£10,000.00 football injury compensation for a player injured on Merseyside - Mr Walters suffered a badly broken leg as the result of a heavy challenge from behind during a football game in Birkenhead when the ball was long gone. There were some  real difficulties with the case because our client's teammates were reluctant to get involved, but we took on his claim on "no win no fee" terms and helped him get over £10,000.00 in compensation

"Off the ball" incident results in £20,000.00 football injury compensation - Mr Breightmet was involved in an 'off the ball' incident where he fell victim to a high, two-footed challenge during a game of football in Bournemouth, resulting in multiple fractures to his leg. The opposing player had "dived in" with both feet off the ground even though the ball was yards away. We took on the case and issued court proceedings for our client, before helping him recover £20,000.00 in compensation.

£90,000.00 in football injury compensation for injured carpet fitter - Mr Crawford suffered a football injury as the result of a late, two-footed challenge from behind, during a football match in Salford. He had cleared a loose ball and the ball was gone when he was kicked high up on the back of his calf. The referee immediately sent off the opponent. Mr Crawford was unable to return to work as a carpet fitter for many months, and suffered substantial loss of earnings. Amazingly, the insurers for the offending player denied responsibility, so we had to bring court proceedings, and helped our client settle his claim for £90,000.00.

£22,000.00 football injury compensation after a "high and dangerous" challenge - Mr Collier suffered compound fractures in his leg after a high and dangerous challenge during a semi-professional football match in London. He had played a ball up field and several seconds had past when he was kicked high above his right ankle. There was no prospect of the offending player getting the ball and he was sent off the field by the referee. Due to the serious injury he had suffered,Mr Collier was unable to return to work for several months. We took on the claim against the offending player's insurance company and helped our client recover over £22,000.00 for his injury and loss of earnings.

Postman receives £40,000.00 compensation for his football injury - Mr Cooper suffered a serious football injury as the result of a violent, 'studs up' challenge during a football match in Essex. He had kicked the ball past the goalkeeper who then lunged in, kicking Mr Cooper's right knee with the sole of his boot, in an attempt to 'take him out'. Mr Cooper had to undergo metalwork surgery as he was left with a fractured tibia and knee ligament damage. Due to the extreme force of the challenge, the stud marks are still visible on his leg in the form of scars and a doctor described the injuries as being more like the impact of a motorcycle injury! Our client was unable to return to his work as a postman for several months and lost a substantial amount of earnings. We helped him recover £40,000.00 in compensation.

£15,000.00 football injury compensation for a player injured in the Midlands - Mr Waiters suffered a serious football injury whilst playing in a football match in Stafford. He had knocked the ball forward up the field when an opposing player turned and kicked him high on the left shin. The referee sent the player off immediately because the ball had been "gone for a long time' and there was no doubt that this was an 'off the ball' incident. Mr Waiters  suffered a fractured tibia and had to receive painful 'manipulation' and 'wedge' procedures. He was unable to work as a self-employed butcher for several months. We took on the claim against the offending player's insurance company and helped our client recover over £15,000.00 for his injury and loss of earnings.

'Off the ball' incident leads to £20,000.00 football injury compensation - Mr Hartnell was a tricky winger for an amateur team in Lancashire and he suffered a broken leg when he was the victim of an 'off the ball' challenge from an opposing defender during an amateur match when the ball was yards away. We agreed to fight our client's case through the courts against the insurance company for the other player. Our client won his case in court and received compensation of more than £20,000.00.

£70,000.00 football injury compensation after reckless challenge in FA cup tie - Mr Greenspan was a promising young professional when he suffered a broken leg as a result of a late and high challenge by an opponent during an FA Cup match in the Midlands. The insurance company for the other player wouldn't accept responsibility, so we had to fight our client's case through the courts. Fortunately, the Judge agreed with us and, part way through the case we negotiated an overall settlement of £70,000.00. Mr Greenspan recovered from his injuries well enough to continue with his career and is still playing today.
